Tax preparation is a tough business:
“The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax.” – Albert Einstein.
It seems that no matter how hard you plan things out, between January and 11:59 on Tax Day, it’s chaos. And we all know that as the tax deadline approaches the number of returns a preparer completes goes up:
“To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time.” – Leonard Bernstein
Even after-Tax Day, running a tax preparation business is a major challenge! Getting a large majority of your profits in such a short amount of time creates many new problems. But the after-tax season is the time to invent processes and procedures that can make next season easier.
“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.” – John F. Kennedy
Maybe you saw lots of time being wasted on repetitive, menial tasks. There are often automation systems that can help with that. You set them up and they’ll run forever:
“That Terminator is out there…It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!” – Kyle Reese (Terminator 1)
Well maybe that quote is a little dark, but you get the idea.
Now is also a great time to get more online reviews. After clients get their tax returns done, they are happy (hopefully). One less thing for them to worry about, maybe they even got some money! Use this happy time to get your business a few reviews. These reviews could make a major difference for you in the future:
“Always plan. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.” – Richard Cushing.
Overall, this year has been a little crazy, so I think the most important quote right now is:
“It’s okay to take breaks and have fun sometimes.” ― Elite Founder
Congrats on surviving another tax season!
